How do I alleviate pain at home? This is a common question that many people have when they are experiencing discomfort and don't know what to do.

Here are some recommendations I have:

- Cold Therapy: Applying a cold pack to the affected area for 20 minutes helps reduce the perception of discomfort. If you leave it on for more than 20 minutes more blood and heat goes to the area and could make symptoms worse.

- Heat Therapy: In some cases applying a hot or warm pack for 10-15 minutes to the affected area may provide temporary relief. However, if discomfort gets worse immediately remove the hot pack and cool it down with a cold pack for 20 minutes.

- Stretching: Many individuals don't put their body through it's full range of motion. At times discomfort can be a viscous combination of both weak and tight muscles. Stretching the area for 30-60 seconds may provide temporary relief.

Living and dealing with pain isn't normal. In many cases the cause of a patient's pain is from a misalignment in the spine causing a change to the joint's movement, weakening muscle, ligaments and changing how your nervous system is functioning. A chiropractor is the only health practitioner who can identify these misalignment and be able to treat them.
